And the NY State lotto jackpot is now, -16 Million Dollars... That's...

In the vain of these sour economic times, now even the lotto is suffering by making their winners actually PAY if they win. This week - I'm told, the 16 Million the winner will pay, will be provided to aid sex education in city schools. Good Luck to the participants, get your resume updated now so you won't have to scramble when the bill is received.

Skittles: Social Media Danger-zone

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go
Highway to the Danger Zone

So Skittles did what every company wanting some cheap buzz - without the cost of an expensive redesign, went ahead and created a "Web 2.0" website. Homepage features a direct twitter feed, products directs them to Wikipedia, media directs to YouTube/flikr. Basically exactly what Moderinsta! did last year - which had them banned from Wikipedia (TOS violation for "commercial use").

Ballsy and impressive - not impressive in the use of free tools across the Internet to barter 'authenticity currency' in the social media space, but impressive in that the company recognized that the industry would be a-buzz around this novel idea. Only problem, is that a couple of jokers, and probably more copy cats, already jumped to the YouTube feed to write some inappropriate shite.

Now Skittles, we all know you didn't write it, and we know there are always idiots like this out there. Don't be scared off! I know some Brand Manager is probably sweating, organizing all his/her 'CYA' emails about how this would be a bad idea - but relax, everyone in the social media space has seen this kind of language, and it doesn't reflect upon the brand. Some might say it's cool and edgy - which I'm sure is who you're looking for. Well Done Mars!

Only critiques I have are:

The navigation sucks - should be movable/placeable.
Contact Us - should have been some cool 'twitter' type approach.
This dumb pop-up appears - and then I can't use the navigation.
"Gobbledygook" is clever - but it's not intuitive, especially if you have "Allergy Info" in it. Lets wait for that lawsuit.
